About Beaumont

Located in the southeast corner of Texas, Beaumont offers a rich cultural history and a host of activities. Its proximity to Louisiana adds a “Cajun” flavor to food and music, and locals proudly proclaim Beaumont the “Museum Capital of Texas.”

From the Art Museum of Southeast Texas to the museum honoring one of America’s greatest women athletes, Babe Didrikson Zaharias; to nature treks in the Big Thicket or birding near the Gulf of Mexico; horse racing to casino gaming, there is much to see and do. A large multi-purpose entertainment complex just outside the city limits is under construction, and downtown is home to the new Crockett Street entertainment district, where renovated historic buildings feature a variety of clubs and restaurants.

Another museum near Lamar University celebrates the town’s famous 1901 Spindletop oil boom that gave rise to Mobil, Gulf and Texaco refineries. Originally a lumber mill and trading center in the 1830s, Beaumont’s population is around 115,000, but nearly one-half million people call the greater Beaumont area home as it’s the region’s largest city and the seat of Jefferson County. The Port of Beaumont on the Neches River adds to the area’s industrial worth.

Houston, the nation’s fourth largest city, is only 80 miles away, and one way to get there is through historic Galveston, accessible by a short, free ferry ride. Wherever you travel in the region, you’ll find the Southern tradition of friendliness and hospitality.

Perhaps that’s why attorneys for the class action litigation that established the Beaumont Foundation of America maintain offices in Beaumont. And it’s certainly the reason the Foundation’s headquarters are in Beaumont rather than a major, national metropolitan area.
